The east coast of Lamu island consists of huge sand dunes and wide beaches stretching some 10 kilometres to the south. You will need a pair of solid shoes to walk about in these dunes, as the sand is much too hot for bare feet or even sandals. Image scanned from a colour slide taken in 1974.

Indeed it is, Dennis. I just stumbled upon an interesting story about an Italian architect who recently built a brand new castle almost at the very same spot where I took this photo. Take a look when you have the time and also watch the slide show at the top of the article: [link]

Exactly, and I wouldn't mind to stay there for a little while :)

Would be just fine for me too. Better learn a bit of Kiswahili then. "Jambo habari" means "how are you" and "Jambo nsuri" means "I'm fine" :D

I'm always so horribly distrustful of interpretations... please tell me I wouldn't be giving an affront to someone's sister. ;)

Hehe, I know what you mean. But trust me, "Jambo" (Hello) is a greeting you will hear very often should you ever visit East Africa :D
