Petty Spurge by KeldBach Petty Spurge by KeldBach
I thought I had eradicated this plant from my yard long time ago, but this morning I discovered a single species growing among some other weeds. It's quite a poisonous plant and will burn your skin severely if you touch it. On the other hand, it's also quite an interesting plant and I'll keep this one for a while until it starts to produce seeds. The name is Petty Spurge (Euphorbia peplus), also known as Cancer Weed or Radium Weed. Here's an older close-up view from the top of a seed pod:

Yes, it's poisonous, but can also be used for medical purposes. I'm sure you can find this plant in Russia as well [link]

lush danger... love the subtle variety of greens. well done Keld.

I suspect the purple is its warning.

Thanks, Dennis. You're probably right about the purple. No need to waste the poison if the colour will do the job. I'll keep an eye on it to see if the bees dare to come close when it starts to bloom :D

They can be really nasty. I was burned badly on my arm a couple years ago, and the itching lasted for about a week. Much worse than from the Stinging Nettle :(
