Bought this carnivorous (meat-eating) plant at a local supermarket today. It's a Purple Pitcher (Sarracenia purpurea) and is supposed to feed on insects and whatever other kind of prey that may fall into its pitcher. Should be fascinating to watch. The only insect so far that seemed to feel attracted by the plant's sweet-smelling nectar was this Ladybird, but it cleverly avoided getting trapped.
Please note me if you're interested in purchasing any of my works. Prints will then be made available at RedBubble.com.
Definitely not a pure purpurea. S. purpurea is much shorter, fatter, and has an upright hood. This looks like a hybrid containing purpurea, flava, and leucophylla. It's still pretty regardless.
